The Long Walk
I don't think it always works as a dystopian (I think there is just an inherent difficulty to turning something that was very clearly written as a Vietnam war allegory into something relevant to 2025), it really doesn't say anything that any other dystopian work hasn't said before, and often better. It works solidly if you haven't really seen or read any dystopian works before.
I do think both the acting and writing of the characters was great, I truly came to care for a number of them and was saddened when they inevitably passed.
In the end I think this ends up being a quite solid film, though its dystopia is quite far from being thought provoking
