After the Hunt

Like it when it gets really messy and blatantly annoying -- because characters demand it --, almost like a parody of prestige films on existential/philosophical matters. Julia Roberts shines in every shot she's in. But I'm just not sure about the whole package -- when Alma's past starts to unravel and it gets kinda conventional by explaining too much through backstory. Wanted more of the tick-tick-tick and the absolutely hilarious bluntness -- Allen, Morrissey -- and scenes carrying so much weight in every gesture -- Hank and Alma at the bar = lowkey film's best moment -- and less of the literal provocative verbiage on #MeToo and cancel culture and dynamics of desire & trauma and shit.
