Midnight Run

it's all about de niro being grumpy and bitter, smoking all the time, checking his watch and grodin gently reacting to him. action material feels a bit off, just way too nice for a film with so many dangerous men constantly swearing at each other and exchanging fire. its best moments happen when it actually takes time to develop some truly poignant dramatic bits -- finale, of course, but specially that little family reunion in chicago. would happily remove the other bounty hunter -- sorry, ashton -- to get more scenes with kotto and pantoliano.
