The Strangers: Chapter 3
Nah, now I wanna see the trilogy cut. Harlin concludes his wicked slasher saga dedicating the final chapter to a blunt, anticlimactic shakeup of final girl tropes. As Alice Moody has written, Petsch looks totally detached and embodies such "a vague interpretation of a final girl" -- because she evidently seems to be absorbing all this relentless brutality and is about to come up as a completely different horror film character, one swallowed, defined, ultimately reshaped by violence. Love the doomed Rob Zombie vibes and how Harlin manages to pull of some juicy visual winners -- there is even a stunning blink-and-miss split diopter near the end. Oh, and what a cool use of music to set all kinds of moods, from Jet to, well, Moody Blues.
