There were a lot of things that felt like they just happened because the story needed it to; They didn't really seem as organic as they should have been. Some of the characters' actions and thoughts don't make sense or weren't explained well like the servants seemed to have forgotten that they were human after mentioning it the first time, which is a huge problem since that's what they want and is a major reason they were trying to get Belle and their master fall in love with each other. Oh, and by the way, that woman in the opening of the movie who turned everyone into anthropomorphic objects is kind of a bitch. I can somewhat understand transforming the prince since he was the one who turned her away at the door even though he kinda had an understandable reason to, but why his servants? What the hell did they do to deserve it? This movie hasn't aged as well as I would've liked, but it definitely has some high points. The animation is good and the music is amazing. Not just the stuff like "Gaston" and "Be Our Guest" and such. I'm also talking about the backing music during scenes like the opening shot and the one where Belle is snooping around the west wing of the castle. I really liked Belle's personality-- trying to be charitable to everyone, but not to the degree of sacrificing her self-respect. Despite her caring nature, she'll bite back if it makes sense to. Gaston's development into a villain was also pretty organic-- Seeing him start off as a selfish marksman who is spoiled by everyone around him and then devolve into resorting to more evil tactics because he doesn't know how to deal with rejection. This is kind of a hard one to recommend. It has it's highlights, but it's definitely one of Disney's weaker Renaissance animated movies.
