Usual Cultist boring tv show, so cheap they could more intersting such instead of capturing the VHS videos on HD cams they can gives the vibs and showing "old VHS" as what VHS should be like, I was recommended on /r/silenthill to watch this. I regretted that.

As a producttion, top notch. Story wise, if you are into occult stories it is quite good. It has great, eerie atmosphere especially with that melody. It is put together really well, in the end it will come down to if it convinces you. It holds together within its own universe, but not amazing.

I'm semi-bummed that the second season was cancelled but I think Archive 81 serves as a standalone season well enough. It's like a mixture of Lovecraftian Black Mirror Matrix of 90's tech and occultism.

It's not quite finished. It's full of scenes that don't make sense. I'm going to go back over it and... What's that? You're going to start shooting tomorrow?

Leaving this review in case there's no season 2 (it's netflix so could happen): episodes 1-4 had a really fun midsommar x blairwitch x only murders in the building vibe, then episodes 5-8 were a really bad mixture of 12 monkeys and twilight zone. I don't think it went in the correct direction at all, which is sad given that there was potential. You know a horror themed show messed up when its final scene is meant to be serious and dramatic but makes you laugh out loud.

Surprisingly, this tale shares far more with the stylings of Lovecraft than even most direct adaptations of his work. However, what serves for a rather stunning limited series ended up limping towards its final episodes as they clearly entertained prospects & setup for serial seasons despite the premise already running thin (and character depths being exhausted entirely) with solely exposition dump served up as the final episode.

Good atmosphere. Show weakens dramatically in the last 3rd.

Starts well, ends poorly. Acting isn't great and episodes feel 5-10 minutes too long. Still pretty cool though, something different.

Twin Peaks lite. But interesting, different, and enjoyable.

Scare-wise and tension-wise it peaks somewhere around episode 4. Then it loses plenty of its steam and becomes a somewhat enjoyable cult-y show.

Wow, 8 episodes of heavy breathing and saying fuck a lot and I couldn't care less who's gonna conjure up Kelloggs and whatnot. Also, the writers seem to think awkwardly filming your ugly mug and every stupid thing you do has always been a thing. Wait 'till Melody gets her hands on a smartphone. Yikes!

It's gripping early on but starts to lose you.

a cool mystery and world unfolds but the writing kneecaps it with weak characters and questionable story direction
