Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman

This gave me a boner as a kid. I don't know why that happened or what the hell was going on, so I never watched it again.

Corny as hell, but done with its tongue firmly inserted in its cheek, and containing one or two funny lines. Daryl Hannah channelling Raquel Welch circa One Million Years BC added some bonus points, but really this film should be retitled Sulk of the 50 ft Woman because she doesn't actually attack anything (alright she punches a hole in a roof at one point, but c'mon...).

Growing every time she gets angry??? In that case this should be called 20 million miles to earth (oh, wait...)

With Daryl Hannah, one of those impossibly handsome Baldwin brothers, and a knowingly cheesy approach, it looked early on that I was in for a treat. But it takes half the movie before she even transforms into the 50 ft woman, and the rampage I was hoping for never really comes. It's an oh-so-slow interpersonal drama of how a young married woman found her voice - interrupted at the end by some fun, cheeky comedy and gloriously absurd images of a 50 ft Daryl Hannah moping around.

Giant dumb blonde attacks the other Baldwin. Who could take this seriously? Maybe I'm being kind because I like Christopher Guest, or maybe because I like 50s scifi or maybe just cause I like tall women. Who knows. Point is, it's hard to criticize a film that sets out to be campy and dumb.

The best part of this is Daryl Hannah, who's likeable in the lead & does a decent if unspectacular job with her role. While the original movie was a sexist mess, this one tries to go in the complete opposite direction, turning it into the pro-feminist story it should be. Unfortunately, it's trying so hard to ram its "Go Women" message down your throat that it forgets to put any actual weight behind it, & the whole thing suffers as a result. An improvement over the original, but still not great.

You would think seeing a really big half dressed Hannah would be so much fun, well it is, but the movie on a whole is not that great.

Håbløs

not so good
