Quite a few years ago, one of my best friends and I undertook an epic project, namely watching the first episode of as many promising TV shows as possible together. Over the course of couple of years we ranked 150 pilots, and my favorite of the bunch was 'Awake'. And while I do wish that the 13 episodes didn't have a case of the week structure, the astoundingly brilliant premise and Jason Isaacs (hello to Jason Isaacs!) on top form still make this absolutely exceptional. An overlooked must-see.

Good idea, but mediocre execution. Supporting actors are all very limited... Police stories are full of clichés and uninteresting. All this to hide the big secret that in the end turns out to be a bad joke. If you're curious and don't have the stomach to digest the nonsense, watch episodes 1,2 and then skip to the last one.

It occasionally got bogged down in murder-of-the-week episodes and the ending was definitely a little weird, but the concept behind it was really interesting and different, and normally-evil-as-shit Jason Isaacs is actually quite gripping as a very decent and ordinary man.
