Black Lightning

I get that the show highlights the disenfranchisement of black communities in America. Its portrayal of a middle-class family trying to do right in said environment is admirable. Unfortunately, the show is just really dull. While the acting is often decent (and even good), there are moments of melodrama that are a complete turn off. The villain isn't just detestable, but intolerable.

What's so new and fresh and awesome about this show is that it doesn't focus on a loner superhero, but it's super family-centric. Black Lightning's daughters are both amazingly awesome in different ways. And I think the show explores the racial tensions in America in a very nuanced, mature way.
