Boiling Point

A disappointment going into this as a fan of the powerful movie. The writers have butchered out all that made the movie good and added a load of bland daytime tv soap elements that are utterly predictable and executed with maximal, juvenile clunk while also formulaically ticking off some modern socio-identity talking points. I don't have a problem with that per se but it’s not interesting and will seem dated in a few years. Another drama misfire by the BBC, like usual.

Even with the same people on both sides of the camera, it's a surprisingly different interpretation of the 2021 film's premise that expands on elements I'd found less interesting. Drops the immersive one-shot; reasonable as to energy and budget, but replaces that with faster cuts which hurt the potency of its mise-en-scène. Submits to the film's melodramatic tendencies and focuses on everyone's lives outside the restaurant, drawing attention away from their technical interaction. What a letdown.

If you liked the movie, you'll like this, although the movie is the stronger of the two. Kitchen scenes are fantastic as usual, however the show keeps coming up with contrived scenarios for its characters outside the kitchen, which don't seem to fit.
