Conversations with a Killer: The John Wayne Gacy Tapes

Not a lot of clowning around. Well, actually maybe there was. In fact there was a lot of clowning around.

Netflix knows how to explore where killers like Gacy come from, and show that it's never one thing, but an amalgamation of trauma, abuse, denial of self and pressure that leads to people doing unspeakably terrible things. Well balanced and very well motivated, going very far to attempt to provide closure to all these families and making sure they should be remembered.

Decent coverage of Gacy’s crimes (especially to somebody fairly unfamiliar with them). The tapes are actually clear, informative and revealing this time, unlike in the Bundy one. But in the Bundy CWAK four episodes were just enough to squeeze everything in; these three feel more than enough here considering the crimes were repetitive, always in the same place, and there was little suggestion anyone was looking for Gacy before he was linked to his final victim.

Well done and sufficiently creepy
