In the city of Oedo 2808a.d., three Cyber criminals are given two choices, to either rot in jail or to join a special force of the Cyber Police to get possibly one more chance at freedom ever again. For each criminal apprehended, and for each successful mission done, the state will agree to reduce their sentences. Lead by Hasegawa, the new recruits: Sengoku, Gogul, and Benton will bring some hard justice to Oedo and possibly taste freedom again. (imdb)

A simple concept with a pretty decent execution. If you're looking for episodic, nice looking cyberpunky crime solving shenanigans with things being sliced up, this'll do ya. I actually would've liked to see more of this.

A violent, stylish, neo-noir cyberpunk anime from the same director as Ninja Scroll and Vampire Hunter D, this three episode OVA is less intellectual than Ghost in the Shell, and less obscure than Akira. The episodes get progressively better as you go along withe the first being the weakest and the third the strongest.

Cybercity, directed by the same guy who did the Marathon sequence in the Animatrix, is a pretty fun, but dated cyberpunk anime from 1990 that centers on 3 ultra-tough criminals who agree help the police kill the bad guys. They get these explosive collars installed (see above) and are given time limits for each mission - if they exceed the time limit - BOOM! There goes their head!
