Takes way too long to get going (we don't get Strange in costume until the last 20 minutes), and the TV budget doesn't allow for much magic-y stuff, but it has an interestingly dark tone. Still very skippable.

The imagery & score of the opening credits is reminiscent of 70's horror & fans of that aesthetic will find moments to enjoy here. Even when you're obviously looking at a cardboard moon some of the art & production design is not only visually striking, but captures the flavor of the Ditko artwork better than the 2016 version. The problem is it's a 70's tv movie pilot & so it can't get creepy enough, & the "magic" we see is pretty lame. What really kills this though is the molasses-drip pacing.

Not a great movie by any means, and it is ultimately a failed backdoor pilot, but there was a real sense of dread and evil present in this production, and Jessica Walter as always was great at chewing the scenery.

Did you know that an almighty, all-knowing Dark Sorceress who teleports and commands the power of evil needs a cab to move around and a student to do her deeds for her? Or that travelling to astral planes is just like a '70s psychedelic trip? Or that if you have three days to prevent something, you should lay back, do nothing and wing it when it's already too late? All this and more in the campy, unexciting, terribly written, badly acted, ridiculously scored and ludicrously shot "Dr. Strange".

The first half of this had some definite Satanic Panic vibe and was all the better for it. The second "action-packed" half was painfully '70s TV Soap Opera cheese. The soundtrack was by far the worst part of this TV film.
