Nice adaptation of the novel, which loses some of its impact thanks to the different structure (telling us both backstories from the beginning) and sanitises the characters a little too much. But still, nice.

First part is good; second half is messy and somewhat contrived. Pretty good all the way through, though.

A brilliantly faithful version of the book, where pretty much every setting was rendered perfectly, such that anyone who has read the book would instantly recognise every location. The book itself is a little messy, convoluted and contrived in the second half, as was this adaptation, but you can't fault the film for following the story so closely... It is more a (small) fault of the book. The acting was faultless from all concerned, and overall, this film was really touching and well made.

The romance is sweet and convincing, but the editing and direction are so clumsy and artless it loses almost all of its spark. The plot also spends way too much time and energy on uninteresting elements. A shame, although Hawkins is excellent as always.

Some good moments, and some decent performances here. But most of the time it's almost impossible to tell, thanks to crappy editing and even crappier, um, "cinematography". Did they they get the video camera they used by running to the nearest WalMart and buying the cheapest one?

Idk, it’s a sexy lesbian historical piece. What’s not to love? The characters are weirdly endearing.
