Once again McElwee surprises me; this time he impressively combines the documentary sensibilities of Peter Watkins and Werner Herzog to critique the mass media (in particular TV news) and to consider key aspects of metaphysics (in particular tychism and synechism) through natural and man-made disasters. And of course McElwee individuates these general issues to his own life, which seems to be his trademark. Charleen Swansea reappears, almost upstaged by Barry Savenor and his VHS collection.
