The first episode is a bit blah, at times it's way too in love with silent cinema to give an honest perspective, some parts get repetitive. That said, the good outweighs the bad by a large margin. It's very well organized and after the first episode very compelling, and each episode is self contained enough to watch on its own while still adding to the larger whole. I also love a lot of the little things in the interviews and stories.

I'm a huge fan of silent films and Kevin Brownlow and David Gill have created a magnum opus on the infancy of the movie making industry in Hollywood, through its golden age, and ending with the advent of sound. This thirteen part documentary not only focuses on the great stars, but also on the lesser known, behind the scenes people who helped to make the silent era so grand.
