The European sense of it is a true heartache, and the only special thing about this movie.

Quietly heartbreaking portrait of a slightly mixed-up young man, with a new wife and baby, who, with the best of intentions, gets himself into a financial hole he can't seem to get out of, and slowly cracks under the pressure. The slightly gritty, almost home-movie visual style intensifies emotion, at once both raw and repressed. Vitus Zeplichal is fantastic, as is Fassbinder's work.

Eu Só Quero que Vocês Me Amem estreava há 45 anos na TV Alemã. Freud e Marx Intensifies por todo lado. Não sei se essa era a intensão do Fassbinder, mas esse filme tem uma total vibe de Escola de Frankfurt, dá para relacionar a obra do Fassbinder com Marcuse de maneira geral, mas aqui está especialmente evidente. Solid mid-tier Fassbinder. Few familiar faces, but many familiar themes. Unusual non-chronological structure not typically seen in his work.

What an odd film. The cast doesn't feature any of Fassbinder's regulars, the editing is really clumsy and it all seems to have been put together hastily. A few bits of the narrative are actually exposed through text spliced into the film, perhaps suggesting that several intended scenes were never shot. Still it's generally good, original and focused, except at some points the psychology is laid on a little too thick.
