I don't tend to like episodic formats like this, but the places that Kino and Hermes go are so interesting that I didn't mind. The show is smart but told in such a way that it's relatable and actually makes you think about stuff.

I look at this series from the perspective of each story being an allegorical hyperbole of various elements of human society, and as a commentary of such it's quite compelling. While you could dismiss it for its exaggerated portrayal of such themes, it's hard to think how it would be conveyed without such extremes since it's exploration of said themes at its extremes. Kino as a character is lacking in substance, but functionally she works perfectly as an observer of the societies she runs into.

In my opinion this is one of the great anime and / or shows ever put on film.
