Lady Chatterley

Russell had a real affinity for D.H. Lawrence, I think--perhaps it's the shared relish in flouting convention. Excellent, sumptuous adaptation, and very well cast: Joely Richardson conveys the complexities and inner conflicts of the heroine apparently effortlessly (something Sammi Davis in "The Rainbow" could not manage at all). Sean Bean is appropriately brooding and just rough enough (and hot!). James Wilby gives it his game best as the priggish Clifford--a thankless role. Well done all round.
