One of the greatest epics ever written, also one of if not the greatest anime ever made. The political aspects of the show are thought provoking and intriguing, characterization is rich and diverse as it even delves into the lives of the common folk, and the deaths are often tragic and depressing. Sometimes the stories of individual episodes don't really hit a high note and the animation can be spotty at times, but ultimately this is a show that no one should miss if they enjoy good stories.

This was everything I hoped it would be, and more. Relatively realistic space opera done so, so well. Grand in scope, with actions and consequences that can surprise but are never out of place. The classical soundtrack enhancing the tactical space battles. A huge cast that's never overwhelming. If there's one awkward drawback it's the lack of women with any agency until later in the series. But my nerd heart burst with joy at this perfect package of war, politics, philosophy and humanity.

this is not a bad anime. but it did nothing for me. obviously, there is a long, complex and intricate tale to be told here, and im sure it has its fans for a reason, it did nothing for me personally. the characters are meh, they represent certain character types that are difinitive to them, but are pretty shallow and run of the mill and dont hold much interest. also the action is lacking, and the battles are a complete bore. i feel the narrative is top notch, with a crap delivery.

Timeless epic about war, politics and humanity. It has little action but keeps you thrilled with the brilliant dialogue, events happen at breakneck speed, every scene matters in this beautiful tragedy where you just want the various nuanced characters to chill and have a friendly drink with each other.

Never philosophical. Sometimes ridiculous (axe battles in space?). Almost always boring.
