A miracle of a show. This came out in a time when anti-theism was hot, which in hindsight reveals itself to be cringey and edgelord-ey. But this show, although certainly shitting on Christian beliefs and ideals, still has an honest appreciation for the good that can come out (or be contrived out) of religion. All seasons are funny, though the last one is a serious bummer, but it ultimately leads to one of the best and most satisfying series endings ever.

It isn't consistently funny enough to carry the theme of shocking misinterpretation leading to atrocity.

The first two seasons are standard adult-swim-style religious satire. Season 3, though... It takes the show to an whole new level, peeling back the layers of parody and humor to take an unflinching look at the monumentally fucked-up nature of the community surrounding Orel. One or two cathartic hope spots are mixed in, but it's some of the most shockingly stark takes on abuse, loneliness, and psychosis ever put to animation.

I teared up at the end of this, and have no shame in saying that

If you want a show that is entirely themed around the hypocrisy of religion, welcome to Moral Orel.

This show was very radical for its time, it showed very explicit comedy and always managed to show serious topics through humor and at times break through its humorous shell and really make you feel.

I don't know what this is. It seems to be attempting to shock with blasphemy, but blasphemy's only shocking if you're religious. This kind of humour probably works best in the US where they don't believe in God rather than gods. There's none more religious than an American atheist!

it's sooooo bad, folks

The season finale of season two, and the third and final season are the real highlights.

Skip the early episodes and just watch the finale of season 2 and all of season 3. Moral Orel changes course for the better at the very end.

Some great episodes that are emotionally draining bogged down by mediocre to bad episodes in-between. The third season feels only like a glimpse into what could have been, but ultimately feels rushed - especially at the end. Good ideas, mediocre to fair execution. With some pretty bad humor to boot.
