did not finish, stopped after a few episodes for the admittedly kind of trivial reason of that the character voice actors voices were grating for me

While a bit above average given its demographic, it's still a juvenile show literally made for little girls. It has some decent jokes here and there, but the plotlines are too puerile for me to enjoy and the morality it touches upon is something I as an adult find gratingly lame. The fact that something as innocuous as this somehow spawned one of the most cancerous fanbases on the internet is astounding to me. I guess people took the memey irony of being in a fandom like this way too far.

It was never a marvel, but season 1 was willing to dedicate time to show two characters simply hanging out or developing a relationship. That was a key part of its charm. This was partly lost in the still fairly good season 2 with its heavier emphasis on narrative and structure, and by seasons 3 and 4 the show completely lost all of its appeal. Now it's completely unwatchable. What a shame.
