Neverland

Neverland is a good example for UK's (fantasy) movie/TV productions high CGI quality: the backgrounds and effects were top notch. Unfortunately the acting and script did not reach that level. Prequeling old stories and fairytales is a hit nowadays. Miniseries started nicely, the other world was build well, but the latter part (action) felt stretched. And then again I did not like old fairies. Beautiful Tinkerbell looked like Brigitte Nielsen. Sorry Charlotte.

I found this to be a lovely TV fantasy.

The story is actually not bad, but the execution comes of as strangely lacklustre. Maybe it's that the backstory gets doled out too late, so most of the time we have no sense of what's actually going down or what's at stake. Maybe it's that Hook spends the most of the time being passed around like a potato rather than showing agency. Maybe it's simply that Neverland, even with its awesome tenlegged crocodiles, is grey and dull, where it should have been vibrant with colours.
