Formulaic rise and fall biopic steals shamelessly from other films and fails to add any real perspective on the porn industry or the Mitchell's pivotal role in it. Estevez resorts to obvious cliches to signal time periods (e.g. hippies for the 60's etc), and the bald wigs are terrible, which makes the dramatic scenes hard to swallow. The 'fall' act plays like an amateurish version of 90's Stone with its use of mixed film stock, rapid cuts and dutch angles. Bad, but also strangely watchable.

Top badass moment? Is there actually a film anywhere with more coke being used in it? (I prefer ginger beer myself.) I couldn’t understand why I had a copy of this on DVD; I’m not into biographical films or the early 70’s in general. (That’s what punk was supposed to obliterate, as it was an artistically horrible shambles of a time.) Then just over 55 minutes in I realised why; it has the world’s 2nd most beautiful woman in it, Nicole DeBoer. :-) No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

Rips off liberally from the 90's drug movie trifecta of Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, Boogie Nights, and Blow, while brothers Emilio and Charlie go around in very unconvincing bald wigs and Charlie Sheen pretty much just acts natural otherwise. Still, probably one of the most legit things ever produced by Showtime.

Another movie about sex, drugs, money and authority. Rated X didin't show us anything Boogie Nights or Larry Flint already hadn't. A generic 70's porn industry portrayal with a few pare of nice tits and even fewer laughs.
