Absolutely brilliant atmospheric horror, with old-school silent film type of unsettlingly slowly building terror. There is something rotten in the state of Sotobamura. One by one, everyone gets devoured until one is left standing in the dark. Heartbreaking and chilling. Not having seen Hellsing Ultimate, I declare Shiki the best vampire anime ever produced!

Vampire-like story that tries to evoke sympathy for the "vampires" - but IMHO the reasoning for that sympathy is faulty (tho a lot of reviewers give it praise for this aspect). V high & gory death count. Slow, meandering - yes discovery of what's really happening could be slow as it's beyond accepted reasoning but way to drawn out. Drawing style somewhat unusual which may put some off. Manga based (praised - unread personally) with changes on the manga added in. Summary-immature, over-reaching.

Where are the vampires?

Very straightforward vampire story, almost like an anime adaptation of Salem's Lot. Oppressively sad from beginning to end.
