Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen

The first few episodes conjure an amazing and relatable vibe of dread (it reallllly scared me, which is a rare thing). It's still pretty good after the reveal, though it could have sunk its teeth deeper into the themes of the institution of marriage as a deadly nightmare trap for women, soulmates, believing vs idealizing your partner, and the almost throwaway queer element. Still, very atmospheric and pleasantly surprised by Jules being the MVP, since I hated him in the beginning.

well, what do you know, the shift from netflix’s typical bland lighting was the first sign I was in for a delight. without any spoilers, this isn’t the usual “eat the rich” elevated horror (that trope was kinda getting overused for me). this is proper “horror-horror,” iykwim. also gore and bloodbath that isn’t thrown in for shock value, but well earned. 🤌 hope they don’t milk this success with a bunch of “curse witnessing” spin-offs or unnecessary extra seasons. though it made me make a... - Full Review

The third about inlaws horror was great, terrifying, relatable to many I bet. The third about relationship horror was good, anxiety inducing, relatable to most I'm sure. The third about ghosts and curses and body horror was not as fun to me, but it was well done. Hard to rate a show that jumps from theme to theme so much. I liked it a lot, the characters are interesting and well written, proper feminist horror while sticking to classic themes, makes you feel actual existential dread. Good stuff.

Liked the Colin Stetson soundtrack and some elements of the style but the whole thing was dishonest to the viewer. Characters acted mysteriously creepy in early episodes purely to create a sense of horror not for any logical or in-universe reason. A very dumb show.

There are a few minor flaws at times, but overall, it's a great and well-produced series that tackles the complexities and contradictions of relationships under a veil of mystery and horror. I enjoyed it a lot.

Selten so eine Zeitverschwendung, selten so damlichen Mist geschaut.

Starts off really strong then loses momentum pretty spectacularly. At least 3-4 episodes too long.
