Once you get past the pilot that looks to be passing itself off as more Wars than Trek in its pace, kid appeal, and those stock bad dudes - you get to some very good stuff (good stuff=best of the Kurtzman era). It is amazing how much better this show is in contrast to its live-action contemporaries at handling multiple characters, getting us to know who they are, and still take the time to develop a proper season arc for its overall story THROUGHOUT the season (not exposition dump everything).

[through season 2] Season 1 is fine; season 2 is terrible.

S1: way better than i was expecting.. good overall story and well developed character arcs.

Feels more ‘Star Treky’ as it goes along. Nicely put together and very fine children’s television that has the ability to entertain most all ages.

(S1) A strange mix. Aesthetically it looks more like a Star Wars show, with droids, space magic and a general grunge-y feel, tonally it's more similar to Legend of Korra (i.e a serialized kid's show that deals with darker themes), yet it still has enough familiar elements of the Trek universe to be recognizably Trek. Certainly a better than average children's show, and I'm excited for the potential directions this show could go in future seasons.

I need to mention that I didn't feel the Star Trek atmosphere at all. The story is set in a distant, abandoned part of the galaxy. No sign of the Federation, but plenty of family conflicts. I'd say, it rather has the feeling of a Star Wars show than Star Trek. We even have two characters who look like Sith lords! Despite this mismatch, I had a really good time with the show. With a mythical hero story focused on children and family, I can recommend it to all STAR WARS fans. You won't regret it.
