Two US navy divers discover the legendary Nautilus by accident, and upon exploring the vessel accidentally release Captain Nemo from cryogenic suspension. Shortly Nemo and his Victorian-era but still extremely advanced submarine are recruited to battle an evil scientist, threatening to unleash his Doomsday device on Washington, DC, unless he's paid a billion dollars in ransom. The movie was a pilot for an action-series called The Amazing Captain Nemo, but re-edited for cinematic release.

I've seen two hour long episodes of a television show smashed together, but three?! It barely makes sense, and the villains are ludicrous. I'm not sure Burgess Meredith was actually costumed or just refused to change out of his regular clothes. He's flanked by a psychic robot whose chin constantly makes him look like he's a mouth breather. And Jose Ferrer's interpretation of Nemo is that of someone completely bored by everyone and everything-- very apt, considering the movie.

Deliciously campy movie, for late and bored friday nights or when you're stoned I guess. It's all over-the-top nonsense, including laser-battles under water, a megalomaniacal evil scientist plotting world domination from his base in Atlantis, using a submarine manned by robots. Countless quotes that could be used as soundsamples in techno, that's how campy this thing is.
