I know the book is considered a classic but it was an unbearable read. Gary simply wasn't interesting enough to carry 1100 pages. I didn't give a shit about anyone. The movie is slightly more successful in that regard, with Tommy Lee Jones giving it his all as a narcissist weirdo and Arquette being mostly believable as poor damaged trash. That being said there is still isn't really any sympathy so you're essentially just watching it for the true crime trial novelty.

Very well done, with an excellent and imaginative central performance by Tommy Lee Jones.
