See it for Richard Harris. This is acting.

A well made TV film adaptation of Paul Gallico's short story about a crippled artist living in an old lighthouse, who befriends a young girl during WWII, the two bonding over the care of his birds. Harris and Agutter are both solid, and there's a few memorable scenes, but the ending overwhelms with a sense of melancholy sentimentality that left a sour taste in my mouth.

Wonderful little drama and impressive for a TV movie. Starred Richard Harris and Jenny Agutter.

A good story, even if at times the telling is a touch too melodramatic for me. Seemed a bit short; I feel like it would have been more effective if we spent a bit more time with the characters when they're not together.
