The SpongeBob Musical: Live on Stage!

This show is a colossal mess of ideas with a totally arbitrary story, but I get why it's been a big hit. Kind of wish they had done an animated adaptation of the show instead.

Even as a kid, I disliked the Spongebob show, but man, I doubt anyone was expecting this to be this good. The music and script are perfectly mediocre, in a crowd-pleasing kind of way, but it's a technical and engineering marvel, from the costuming to stage design. Slater is a great actor with lots of variety and between the mediocrity there's some real breath-taking moments like a skateboarding musical number and Squidward somehow tap-dancing in a 4-legged costume.
