Uneven but enjoyable sci-fi/Western/action/comedy/drama anime.

First half is a spaghetti western comedy - think Bugs Bunny meets Clint Eastwood - but the second half becomes much darker as we learn about Vash's past and motives. Basically it's Rurouni Kenshin with guns and without the crappy filler, make of that what you will. However, It ends rather abruptly and not much of the villains' backstory is explored, particularly Legato. Still a good watch though, especially for action anime fans.

really enjoyed the ride

Far too comedic, with a main character who's a dumb perverted pacifist refusing to kill anyone (!). It gets better/darker in the second half, which explores Vash's past and life philosophy. Besides the animation sometimes feels cheap. The protagonist and a few other characters benefit from cool visual designs though. "Cowboy Bebop" and "Gungrave" (series with similar characters/themes) are much, much better.

it goes to shit, but it was fun for a while

Season 1: While not as spectacularly bold as its thematic cousin Cowboy Bebop, Trigun surpasses it in its fantastic worldbuilding. Vash and the supporting cast are all interesting in their own ways, and the overarching plot is great, picking up even more in the back half. My complaints are mainly in the uneven tone of the story, but the show itself is too fun and interesting to waste time on that. Great show. Worth a watch for any Bebop fan.
