The resolve of this film depends on the audience taking the perspective of a "true believer." The rigidity and severity of Catholicism makes for an unpopular devotion, but Francis is intent, caring for his crippled mom in their shit apartment. Steadfast, good little buddy boy. His obsessions are linked with his greatest doubts. They push him to insanity, and his loss of faith. The only prevalence in this world is the slaughter of the innocent, and the most forbidden evils, committed by saints.

A very bleak and surreal take on Hitchcock's Rear Window, with Francis' sanity in doubt as the things he observes as a voyeur may or may not be real. Aiden Gillen gives a great performance as a character driven by guilt and obsession, and the cinematography is excellent, but it feels like something is missing in the final reel. Maybe I just didn't get the point, but it seemed like too much was left unresolved.

That's not right?... It's freakishly awesome!!! Dark atmosphere with lots of twisted elements analyzing a single, widely disconnected soul. Aidan Gillen's performance was just sick. Religiously flipped out gore!

Wow....am I the only one who likes this movie? Cmon! I mean it's called Buddy Boy! In all seriousness, it's probably the most disturbing film I've ever viewed. A delight.

Intriguing, but dull. A paradox you say? What does it matter, you shouldn't really be on this page. If you're after something dirty, surreal, subversive, "Following"-esque then you might enjoy this film. But you probably wont. Watch Naked (Mike Leigh) instead. The film, I mean, no peeping.
