Cyborg 2087

This is pretty impressive. This movie was basically the plot of The Terminator, so James Cameron must have seen it. Ahead of its time for its day and a good sci-fi movie starring Michael Rennie as the cyborg.

Contains one of the screen's alltime ridiculous images: those two goony cyborgs with the wrist compasses in hot-pursuit formation (it's like some weird new type of synchronized swimming on land). Also the woman on the rope who unaccountably screamed every time she got pushed was pretty amusing; then too there was Corey's repudiation of the whole business, standing in for every harried no-win cop who's ever been stuck right in the middle of one of these things...

On its face, Cyborg 2087 sounds like the plot for the terminator: this guy from a dystopic future comes back to the past to stop the development of a new technology with lots of promise, that ends up destroying humanity as we know it; unfortunately, he is chased by these cyborg things who are bent on stopping him. While there are certainly some similarities, the differences are perhaps broader.
