Rather interesting tale concerning anxiety about emasculation and confusion about how to respond to it, mixed with racial themes. At a more general level, an exploration of the legitimacy or otherwise of the rights to life, liberty and property, and of where if anywhere the guarantee of such rights ought lie today. Hard to be sure whether the last scenes are meant sincerely as a vindication, ironically as a rebuke to the audience, or just as a set of disjointed elements open to interpretation.

After a promising first act, this film falls into a spiral of Niane partying with his new, thuggish friends and being told he isn't man enough. I was hoping it was building to a climax where Niane is pushed too far and takes drastic, regrettable action, but it's working towards a much dumber climax that revels in pointless torture, assault and violence.

Some mysteries. Hard to tell whether some things have happened or how they've happened. Scenes at the end are kind of interesting.
