Happy Valley

Too conventional for my tastes, but there's still a lot here to chew on: the consequences of bestowing sport with the language of moral character, how hero worship can be the source of violent cognitive dissonance, how the moral iconography of sport and celebrity can become a shroud to hide the most heinous acts imaginable, how self-hagiography that cannot abide the appearance of compromise or flaw will inevitably have to compromise itself to preserve the impression of moral integrity.

People (Americans) are idiots. Only because the NCAA is a bunch morons that turn the hole school into victims that doesn't mean the school, the system, the culture (that probably is NOT special for America) in that area didn't need to handle things differently. Before and after the news broke. And this movie is not focused to capture all of that effectively.

Most documentaries are like, "This. And then, this." Amir Bar-Lev's are like, "This. But then, this."

A decent look into the effects of a scandal in a football crazy town. Nothing groundbreaking.
