Tati fumbles around, silly things happen. Doesn't have the visual style of his features, but doesn't drag like them either.

The starting point of Tati's fantastic directorial career, and a basis for Jour de Fete, it's a cute short film and Tati shows off fantastic physical comedy skills.

This was Jour de Fete with all the tedium excised. Hard to complain.

Best gag: Tati's bicycle going to the bar by itself. Extra points for all the Buster Keaton references.

If you have watched "Jour de fete" already then you practically already watched this one, as it's remade almost entirely in the movie. In my opinion anyway, everything worked better in this short, the repeated gags are equal or better here, some things they supressed were actually good and what they add in the movie is not that good. It also has a more proper duration so it feels lighter.

I've been trying to figure out why I haven't been able to warm of to Jacques Tati's short films and I think its really two things. First I'm not a fan of the music used and second Tati himself doesn't have much charisma or screen presence.

I'm really not all that crazy about Jacques Tati, but this early short (that kind of uses some plot elements that will end up in "Jour de fête") made me laugh a couple of times and then was over. Hard to argue with that.
