My All American

This movie has a true story that's definitely worth telling, but it's too shamelessly melodramatic.

My All American is exactly what I expected. It weighs in heavily on emotions and it is predictable, but it does so good. Wittrock is amazing in this role, very sympethatic. Eckhart overacts with the accent and the deep voice, but it doesn't take (much) away from the story. One thing I would chance (if Wikipedia is right....) is to mention the story of Steinmark as an inspiration to the National Cancer Act. Just to add to the sentiment. 60/100.

Meh...struck me as a Lifetime melodrama: mild entertainment that I will have forgotten by next week. :/

An overly standard inspirational American Football movie focusing on the true life story of Freddie Steinmark tragically short career. Uses all the clichés in such a manner that they don't make much of an impact at all. No doubt there's a ton of better sports films out there, and while My All American (2015) isn't directly terrible, you still feel like you've wasted your time watching it.

Quite good.

If you're a fan of Hoosiers or Rudy, you'll love My All-American. One big reason? It was written and directed by the same filmmaker who wrote the screenplays for both of those scrappy classics, Angelo Pizzo. (pluggedin.com)

Cheesy moments of low quality schmaltz interspersed with some occasional sparks of genuine....non-schamltz. The Christian sector, apparently unable to come up with any new propaganda tactics, just keeps rehashing the same old tired attempts at ambushing the shrinking ranks of the blindly faithful.
