Interesting premise that works most of the time, but MacLaine's actual ego keeps showing through when they would have preferred it to have appeared practiced or skillfully portrayed. It is a chick flick after all, and the male station manager manages to maintain his character's peripheral status in the story.

This is as by the numbers as a film gets. But it somehow touched me, probably due to veteran acting of MacLaine and Seyfried holding her own.

The filmmakers embarked on a task at the film's onset: to paint Shirley McLean's character as a despicable person. A film about a narcissist trying to earn herself a legacy? That is an immediate turn off and the film just became increasingly more and more difficult to watch. Nothing is worthy of praise. Just a bad movie
