The Murderer Lives at Number 21

A good old-fashioned whodunnit. That includes just being a little bit hammy. Not as sophisticated as other Clouzot films but enjoyable nonetheless.

A delightful surprise. The film doesn't have a huge reputation as far as I know and is overlooked among Clouzet's works, but it's underrated. The end is very satisfying and there's a very well placed red herring aimed at frequent mystery watchers that threw me off. The first person perspective shots of the murderer are good and pretty innovative for the time. The comedy is the weakest part, but it works without. Refreshingly unpredictable. Very good stuff.

Was surprised I actually laughed at this given the era

Playful murder mystery from Henri-Georges Clouzot. Not too unlike those from Hollywood with a detective and a dizzy dame trying to solve a interesting case being thrown off-course a bunch of times before stumbling upon the solution. This one full of comic excellence in between creative murders. Such fun!

Slow but good. Can see why they called him the French Hitchcock after watching this.

A comedy noir that that succeeds in combining the thrilling with the humorous.

A kind of French version of the Thin Man series. A serial killer leaving his name at each murder is on the loose. Witty screwball dialogue and a decent mystery. The ending is a little disappointing, but not enough to ruin the fun.
