Wildlike

The beautiful doe-eyed Ella Purnell gives a good convincing performance. Running away from bad circumstances, she follows a middle aged hiker across the Alaskan wilderness. Beautiful scenery, excellent production quality & music. The pacing is very slow but it's well crafted. Bruce Greenwood was quite good. From their meeting the story was interesting & engaging. It was satisfying to see them get attached. The ending was a bit understated.

Wildlike goes to show: you either have someone, or you don't. It's affectingly illustrative of how a certain amount of pain forces one to be alone in the world--and God made Alaska for being alone.

Understated drama is at its best depicting the evolving relationship between Greenwood and Purnell, which develops at an angle to the stereotypical odd-couple tropes, making these characters feel very real and believable. Less successful is the half-hearted man-hunt orchestrated by Geraghty, and the establishing scenes set up questions and themes the screenplay is a little too timid to address, but overall subtle, rewarding and quietly moving, with a nice, rare leading showcase for Greenwood.
