Biography: Garland rose to prominence with his novel The Beach, and subsequently received praise for writing the Danny Boyle films 28 Days Later and Sunshine. He made his directorial debut with the sci-fi thriller Ex Machina, which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. His second film, Annihilation was also a critical success. Garland went on to direct the miniseries Devs, the horror thriller Men, and the dystopian Civil War. (Wikipedia)
