Massacre at Central High (1976) - Rated 14 Sep 2025
"I'm surprised by how much nudity there was including full-frontal male nudity, especially since these are high school students. Derrel Maury is terrific. The other actors, hit or miss. A weird message: it's good to keep the bullies, because if not, other bullies will rise to take their place? I don't get it. The tone is ABC Movie of the Week with extra boobs and violence. Mostly just weird. Terrible song lyrics. And no way a serial killer with 9 dead wouldn't raise alarm ..."
The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra (2001) - Rated 09 Sep 2025
"Fun at the beginning, got tiresome, got fun again. Hard to keep up, and I agree that it's too long and repetitive (as long and repetitive as some of its influences were, that's not the best aspect to emulate. Maybe do it for one scene only, and then move on to skewer other elements). The cast is fun (I especialy enjoyed Jennifer Blaire and Susan McConnell). Extra points for enthusiasm, verve, and not being formulaic."
The Hidden (1987) - Rated 02 Sep 2025
"I guessed the twist early on. Didn't find the plot, staging, aesthetics, or dialogue particularly compelling. Not for me, not terrible."
The First Nudie Musical (1976) - Rated 20 Aug 2025
"Good-natured but not tremendously exciting film. Musical sequences were a bit flat, with one exception, the scene at the brothel (and a good song to boot). Cindy Williams as always is terrific. The leading man was extremely handsome but wore glasses almost throughout and the reflections prevented a good look at him (yes, I'm shallow). Bruce Kimmel as the young director also sparkled, I wish he'd done more since."
Sugar Hill (1974) - Rated 17 Aug 2025
"It looked good, but was long and repetitive, without any particularly clever sequences, great writing, or interesting characters ... so looking good only takes you so far. I stopped an hour in with half an hour left and fast-forwarded to the conclusion. Some of the choices just irked, like how zombie were covered in cobwebs, that didn't make sense to me. And sloooooow paced."
Kiss Me Kate (1953) - Rated 16 Aug 2025
Thunderbolts* (2025) - Rated 16 Aug 2025
"Like the actors very much and enjoyed their characters, but the pacing felt very odd. The opening was dreary (I wish it had cut straight to their initial meeting), and I was surprised when it ended, the final showdown felt like a mid-movie moment. Oh, and one exception, I didn't care for Hannah John-Kamen's performance, she stood out as particularly uninteresting and I'm still not sure what her powers are. That's partly the script, of course, but the others seemed interesting despite that."
Snowden (2016) - Rated 15 Aug 2025
"Kinda boring, especially if you've already watched the documentary. What's interesting is the secrets, not the man's biography."
Kath & Kimderella (2012) - Rated 15 Aug 2025
"I know it's silly, but it's good fun, and jsut the sort of thing I'm happy to watch on a rainy Saturday night with the husband."
King Dinosaur (1955) - Rated 09 Aug 2025
"Ghastly. Particularly stupid. So stupid to travel to an alien planet and encounter animals identical to the ones on earth. And then, having established that, it makes it even harder to accept iguanas as dinosaurs, ludicrous. Plus, plot? What plot? Characters? Nope. And then once again the desire to kill everything which I regard as particularly American (sorry)."
