"Nicholas Hoult is Hugh Grant, Nicolas Cage is... Austin Powers? Strange editing and possible ADR voiceover aside, this preposterously bloody Crank-a-like barrels through its lean runtime with gusto. Awkwafina is fun when the perfunctory police procedural intro is finished, and Ben Schwartz plays the role he was made for. A schlocking good time."

"Escape Room is not a very good escape room. The clues are all there: the puzzle box from Hellraiser, the moving rooms from Cube, the victims with shared backstories from Saw V. But they don't add up to anything. Some of the cast must die and so they do, and others must live until they don't. Would You Rather had Jeffrey Combs, Final Destination had Death. This has neither. Maybe Deborah Ann Woll is better than this. Maybe not."

"Uneven and unconfidently shot, nonetheless a minor success in the subgenre it wishes to be. The Kid Mero's easy charm suits his role perfectly, but Method Man and Shea Whigham are given little to do, Father Jackson in particular feeling like half his scenes were left on the cutting room floor. The kids turn in largely perfunctory performances but Gerald W. Jones III hints at something greater."
