Unleashed (2005) - Rated 13 Aug 2007
An underrated film with an underrated actor. Jet Li continues to impress me with his acting ability as much as his fighting skills. This movie brings the best of both together, and with a supporting cast boasting Freeman and Hoskins, it's definitely worth a look.

Elephants Dream (2006) - Rated 13 Aug 2007
While the story may be confusing, this short film ranks so highly due to its ambitious vision. Using OSS software almost exclusively, a team of animators created a 3D animated story with visuals to rival the best in the business. And, their work pushed the feature-set and quality of Blender (the 3D animation software in question) by leaps and bounds.

A Scanner Darkly (2006) - Rated 13 Aug 2007
Rating this movie is nearly impossible. The performances by all involved are incredible, but this isn't the most comfortable movie to watch. If we rate, however, based on the film having its intended effect, you have to rate it extremely high.

Superman Returns (2006) - Rated 13 Aug 2007
Being a lifelong Superman fan, I had mixed feelings about this movie. Additionally, the introduction of the child in the trailers unsettled me as well. After finally consenting to see it, though, I was pleasantly surprised. Kate Bosworth turned out to be an inspired choice, better than the original in my opinion, and the child didn't distract much. My

Cars (2006) - Rated 13 Aug 2007
It may not stand up to repeat viewings like Bugs Life, Monsters, Inc., or the Incredibles, but it's still a great movie. My 3 year old has now seen it 3 times, and he loves it each and every time. Let's call it an in-the-park homerun for Pixar.

X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) - Rated 13 Aug 2007
X-Men: The Last Stand poses some interesting moral questions, and therein lies the reason I really enjoyed this film. Yes, it has corny lines, and yes, Storm had too much screen time. But, you still have a solid action flick that requires some thinking of your own. Hopefully you stayed to the very end of the credits to catch the last 5 seconds of the movie to catch a further twist on the morality questions introduced in the movie.

You can't go wrong with Bruce Willis, and Steve Carrell is just icing on the cake.
