As far as I can tell John Ford's talent as a director does most of the heavy lifting in this classic western despite its flawed and sometimes confusing script. Politics aside I found the completely dysfunctional cast of characters who are constantly at melodramatic odds with each other over the slightest indiscretion totally insufferable in what otherwise would have been a great western.

Objectively this film is just a guy rambling incoherent political nonsense to himself for an hour and a half. Filmed with nothing but malice and contempt Secret Honor was sparsely interesting at best but mostly its a boring and crass exercise to demonize an already reviled political figure with very little to say outside of the obvious.
