It's a frustrating watch because it's the story of a man who came from nothing and worked his way to the top who loves his son so much he would do anything to encourage him to succeed and still after ninety-six minutes of screen time he can't get no respect.

It's kind of refreshing to see Billy Zabka change things up a bit and play a villain. Also, that dive at the end, there's no way it's legal. Jason stepped over the edge before beginning his dive. I will say, however, kudos to whoever thought diving was cool and needed a whole movie. As if we already don't get enough of it every 4 years at the olympics. I mean, seriously, who gives a fuck about diving.

Silly movie fits right into the 1980's. Nothing really works here but nothing is so offensively bad to merit it super lower scores. Average.

OK, so it deserves a lower rating, sue me! I am a fan of Dangerfield and I'm giving him a little respect. Lots of laughs - especially if you like Rodney.

Well, I like Rodney Dangerfield, but I'd rather watch his stand-up than watch most of his movies. This is funny enough, comsidering he plays the same character he plays in every movie: wiseacre middle-aged underachieving lecher skating through life on charisma.

It bleeds 80s, Dangerfield is definitely a bit too clean, and the dramatic arc and love stories are totally unconvincing, but it has a certain charm. Not to mention that it features 80s legend William Zabka in his prime and current legend Robert Downey Jr. in his youth - in the same scene! Holy crap!

I've got a soft spot for terrible Rodney Dangerfield movies. Bonus points for young Robert Downey Jr.

I think Robert Downey Jr has about as many haircuts as Dangerfield has one-liners. The plot is mundane but there enough comedy, Oingo Boingo, and great cast additions to make this a pretty good 80s comedy staple. Burt Young rubbing down Rodney Dangerfield is about as good as it sounds.

Back to School is a classic 80's comedy movie. I'm sure the movie's script was only fifty percent written and the rest was ad-libbed by Rodney Dangerfield. That is part of the reason why the movie is so good. It is raw in some ways. There are tons of surprises throughout the movie that make it a wonderful museum piece - Kurt Vonnegut Jr., Oingo Boingo, gap-toothed Robert Downey Jr., etc. It is one of those movies that I can watch again and again. It's not perfect but it doesn't need to be.

Okay, but gets a little ho-hum. Nice round up of the 80's though.

Admittedly not the funniest comedy out there, but it is however extremely charming and thoroughly entertaining. They absolutely nailed the casting. I was all in from the moment I heard Elfman's score and saw those perfect opening credits. The only real downside is that the humor relies a little too heavily on Dangerfield's rather outdated one liners. But yeah, if you're a fan of cheesy 80's movies check this one out immediately.

Half an hour of Dangerfield stand up spread thin across 90 minutes of by the numbers 80's slobs vs snobs college setting. Some amusing moments and funny lines but too far and in between

Dangerfield is perfectly cast as a boorish but charismatic millionaire who enrols in college as the world's oldest freshman. Like many college comedies of the period, there is a strong anti-intellectual streak, but this film hits most of its satiric targets, lampooning both the cliquey nature of campus life and the corrosive effect of money on tertiary education. The strong supporting cast also helps, with Downey Jnr, Kinison, Kellerman, Young and Beatty all doing fine work.

The script and direction don't help much, but Dangerfield is very funny and (yes!?) very moving too. Add a wonderful cameo by Sam Kinniston as a crazy Vietnam vet history prof, and you have something worth watching. Once. (I have to admit, though, that I like it so much I've watched it three times at least.)

Very surprisingly good. A "youth comedy" in which the message is "Poetry Is Great", which features cameos by Oingo Boingo, Kurt Vonnegut, and Sam Kinison. Great cast, and so often funny

Fun to watch, but a bit risque. Not something I'd watch with kids around. this theme was interesting, if a bit farcical, and the young college kids theme is by now worn completely out.

Memorable for pretty much only two things: Downey Jr and the ridiculous way-80s Triple Lindy. It's not a terrible time, and it carries along a certain amount of the charm of its time, but I wouldn't recommend anyone go out of their way to see it. I ended up watching it because it happened to be on TV and I feel pretty OK about it.

This movie has a few funny moments but not quite enough to recommend it. a young Robert Downey Jr. has a supporting role in this movie. If you really like Rodney Dangerfield then you have a better chance of really enjoying this comedy.

Rodney Dangerfield, with a fluffier and less funny hairdo, is "the world's oldest living freshman". This marks him as a fun guy and B.M.O.C. to anyone who isn't a square or snob. The hairdo is the tipoff: the whole point is to ingratiate him with the young (i.e., the bulk of the moviegoing public), at the expense of his contemporaries and his own integrity.

Seen: 2. This was a Comedy Central staple. A lousy premise, but a decent vehicle for Dangerfield to do his thing.
