I'm not a big blaxploitation fan, but I liked this. Not a spectacular film, but a well filmed and enjoyable one (review written a year after I saw it, so the details are somewhat blurry).

Aside a couple of good scenes, this felt pretty half-assedly done. The James Brown soundtrack is dope, at least.

Treasure Island (1934) - Rated 05 Feb 2014

A serviceable adaptation, that rushes through its source material without taking much breaks. The kid playing Jim Hawkins was maybe a bit too young for the role - though the character's age isn't specified in the novel, so it leaves some room for imagination - and somewhat annoying. The pirates were overly comical, though I kinda warmed up to Beery's Silver as the movie went on.
