Fargo (1996) - Rated 07 Aug 2024
"A masterpiece of farcical true crime."
No Country for Old Men (2007) - Rated 07 Aug 2024
"Amazing film that I just saw many years after having read the novel. Javier Bardem's portrayal of Anton Chigurh was the closest thing to a human version of the Terminator. Josh Brolin and Tommy Lee Jones were perfectly stoic counterparts. The mood of the movie was suitably ominous, and the pacing excellently crafted to keep you involved."
Solace (2015) - Rated 14 Dec 2022
"Was OK. Could have been much better, but it seems hard to pull off the logic of psychic powers in a story, so I found myself checking too often whether what just happened made logical sense. Which is a shame, because it took away from a compelling idea about terminal illness and mercy killing. A better version would have been more like Ghost or The Sixth Sense."
John Q (2002) - Rated 30 May 2022
"I wanted to root for this film, but it was just too unrealistic. Not only because in the US such a black man would be quickly shredded in a hail of gunfire, but also on the other hand because it was implausible how John Q was able to manage holding hostages in that situation. The silver lining is that the film does accurately portray how bad US health care is. But the main character's understandable desperation doesn't make the plot believable - or advisable for anyone in the same boat."
Den of Thieves (2018) - Rated 28 May 2022
"Not the caliber of classics like Heat or even Bad Boys, but it was entertaining enough, if a bit long."
Gone Girl (2014) - Rated 25 May 2022
U.S. Marshals (1998) - Rated 23 May 2022
Flight (2012) - Rated 17 May 2022
Most Dangerous Game (2020) - Rated 12 May 2022
"Promising premise and superb acting by Waltz, but becomes increasingly implausible as the plot unwinds."
Disturbia (2007) - Rated 08 May 2022
