Us (2019) - Rated 16 Apr 2019
Jordan Peele has stuffed many symbols and signs in this movie, but in the process we're left confused. The plot was messy and full of holes. The horror elements had strange pacing, and landed more laughs than screams. An interesting concept but poorly executed, even the great performances by Lupita Nyong'o and Winston Duke couldn't save this movie.

Dumbo (2019) - Rated 31 Mar 2019
This movie really struggled to keep me interested, with its repetitive scenes and an incredibly boring story. The characters motivations hardly make any sense, and the CGI was not great.

Solaris (1972) - Rated 27 Mar 2019
Lovely cinematography, and a somber tone that remains consistent throughout. It feels like a sketch or a philosophical musing. The slow plodding pacing makes the movie feel like it's happening in realtime before your eyes.

Get Out (2017) - Rated 27 Mar 2019
An excellent first outing for Peele as director. Suspense done right, and an overall message that isn't too heavy-handed. It was tonally great, jumping between comedic bits and scary bits effortlessly.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) - Rated 27 Mar 2019
An excellent direction for animation. I have never seen an animated feature quite like this one. It oozes visual style, and for that reason alone it's worth watching. The story follows a very comic book formula, which for a comic book movie is fine by me.

Alita: Battle Angel (2019) - Rated 27 Mar 2019
The art direction and fight choreography was beautiful. There's one fight in particular that really benefitted from the fact that the protagonist has a destructible body. The story was mediocre, though I was unfamiliar with the manga source material. I was not off-put by Alita's CGI eyes at all, however the acting from the rest of cast was where the movie suffered.

Paul (2011) - Rated 27 Mar 2019
I went into this expecting very little, and came out with some good laughs. Nick Frost and Simon Pegg rushing around gives me major Hot Fuzz vibes, and that's always a good thing.

Isn't It Romantic (2019) - Rated 27 Mar 2019
The comedy relies too heavily on rom com tropes. Despite the premise of ridiculing romantic comedies, this is in fact a by-the-book romantic comedy. There's also too much slapstick. Ok Rebel, we get it, but fat people falling just doesn't carry a movie.
